ABOUT ME

My name is Omer Mirza and I am captain and choreographer of Bhangra Empire. I have been with the team since it started back in January of 2006. I also was founder and captain of the UC Irvine Bhangra Team ‘Rangla Punjab’ leading them to a 3rd place finish at Dhol Di Awaz and a 2nd place finish at Bruin Bhangra. Outside of bhangra,  I was also was on the award winnding UC Irvine Hindi Film Dance Team ‘Sitaare’ and have experience in Hip Hop, Garba, and Fusion dances.

My role on Empire has changed over the years. I started out as a choreographer and dancer for the first couple of years. Starting the 2008 season I moved to a captain/coach role which let me focus on choreography and an emphasis on synchronization and cleanliness. I have also had the opportunity to judge multiple competitions and have found the experience from a judges standpoint to be very interesting.

After working for 5 years as an Engineer at multiple startup companies in the Silicon Valley, I am going back to school to work on my MBA from Santa Clara University. I also enjoy watching and playing sports including basketball, football, and baseball.
