It's My Empire

Members of Bhangra Empire pose on stage for our ‘Save the Date’ pictures. We thought it would be fitting to do a vest drop because, let’s face it, we vest drop everything. Plus, I’m pretty sure nobody has done it before, so it falls into the category of unique.

Bhangra Empire celebrates after being announced as the Best of the Best 2009 Overall Winner. The announcement ceremony was kind of cool with the name of the winning team being projected on the screen behind us. The competition was held in the Bay Area (Redwood City) and was the last time the team has competed locally. Hopefully that changes soon.

As much as it seems like from this picture, our name never used to be Bhangra Erpiwe. This was our infamous ending at Dhol Di Awaz 2007. The signs were obviously supposed to say Empire. The story is kind of complicated, so try and follow along. Firstly, the signs were laid down backwards (and yes, I laid them out, so my bad). So in theory, the signs should have said ERIPME. No matter how much we try to clean, dancers will always put their own flare to a move. On Bhangra Empire, we try to limit differences as much as possible, but sometimes people just get into it too much. Puneet pauses for a second and gives her best Poonam impersonation while getting ready before Jashan 2012. As opposed to the real world, the girls actually take less time than the guys to get ready in the bhangra world. This is only because each guy has to wait in line to get his pagh tied.

Bhangra Empire poses after Bhangra Nation West 2007 which took place in Vancouver, Canada. This was the first time we placed at a competition, taking home first place.
